When we welcomed Hazel, our Labradoodle from Hershcoco Kennels, into our home, Terry told us she’d be a calm, gentle soul – and he was absolutely right.

 Hazel has such a peaceful presence in the house. She rarely barks, settles beautifully, and just knows when to be still. Of course, she’s still a puppy, so we’ve had the usual teething challenges (we’ve learned the hard way not to leave anything on the floor!) –  but the love she brings to our family more than makes up for it.

 Hazel has formed a truly special bond with our son Ryan, who was diagnosed with autism in February and ADHD in June. She seems to understand his world – offering comfort when he’s anxious, and curling up beside him without needing to be asked. Ryan often wraps himself in a towel and lies with her, and Hazel just stays with him, patient and calm. She’s become a little piece of peace in his day. 

Our younger son Fraser has some traits too, and Hazel’s gentle energy supports him as well. But it’s Ryan who’s truly connected with her – she brings out his smile and helps him settle when everything feels too much.

 

We can’t thank Hershcoco Kennels enough for raising such a loving, intuitive puppy. Hazel isn’t just a pet; she’s become a friend, a calm presence, and a huge part of Ryan’s emotional world.
